  1. Great post! I’m on the inflammation-is-the-cause-of-all-disease bandwagon, myself. Being the ungrateful recipient of a “mixed connective tissue disease” disorder that only raised its disgusting head when I was a medical student, wife, mother, and full-time program administrator, I can’t help but sit and scratch my head that the profound depression that had been with me all my life but remained undiagnosed until then, flared up along with my joints and took me down. There’s plenty of room for chicken-and-egg theorizing, but at the end of the day I remain suspicious of the inflammatory cascade gone terribly wrong. It’s there, idling away on the garbage we feed it, just waiting for that extra dose of stress in our lives to open a crack in the door of our normally functioning immune system, and WHAM. Now the question is, how the hell do we stuff this evil genie back in its bottle so we can get healthy again???

    • Thank you so much for reading my posts. Yes inflammation seems to be quite intimately associated with mental illness, Just in my family, my grandmother had depression and rheumatoid arthritis, my mother had unremitting depression and lupus, and I have bipolar 1 and food allergies and joint pain. And this is just my family. Of course as you said, when stress levels go up, that’s when the inflammation monster strikes. Getting the genie back into the bottle is what researchers are trying to do. I think nutrition is an important part of inflammation and so is whether you exercise or not. So we best be eating well and exercising. Thank you again for reading my blog. See you soon 🙂
