Steve Montador was 35 years old, he was a defenseman in the NHL and had played for the Buffalo Sabres as a defenseman. He last played in the NHL during the 2011/2012 season. He missed the 2012/2013 season due to a concussion. He spoke openly about having depression as a direct result of the concussion. He was only 35 years old. Much too young to go. I assume he was getting help, but obviously not enough. I don’t know what happened and why he lost the battle against depression. I am beyond sad and I hope his family is ok and of course my heart goes out to them. Ah every time we lose one more precious life to this blasted mental illness, it makes me literally sick to my stomach. He didn’t have to go, someone could have helped him. This is all we are left with, conditional verbs and tears.

So, so sad. Words can’t convey it properly, can they? This pattern of a head injury & resulting loss of life happened to a performer I admired and met, Spalding Gary. It’s heartbreaking; Gray needed long-term hospitalization and it didn’t happen. His three children and widow must suffer his loss the rest of their lives.

So sad. What infuriates me is that Big Sports continues to put players back on the field, ice, etc. after concussion, because they are money makers. And athletes want nothing more than to play, even if they weren’t being offered astronomical sums by the Big Sports companies. So it goes, around and around, and unfortunately the whole thing is fueled by…US….I mean, the sports fans, who just enjoy the thrill of watching the game. I include myself in this category, since I did go to a hockey game once and it was incredibly exciting! And I know hockey players who would rather die than stay off the ice……

Hockey news is saying natural causes I’m his death. But yes, he was open about depression after concussions

I really can’t see how a 35 year old super athlete would die of natural causes, highly unlikely! See article below:

Very sad indeed, because then the status quo continues and the amazing athletes don’t get the help when they have severe head injuries.
