About

I just celebrated my 56th birthday, the picture is from my birthday photo shoot (fun!) that I had done! I have bipolar disorder type 1. I am a molecular biologist, I also have an MSEd. I am a wife and a mother. My wonderful son just graduated from Law school, and my amazing husband has stuck by me for over 28 years. I act, sing, take photographs, and cook up a storm periodically! I also blog for the Huffington Post and the International Bipolar Foundation. This illness fairly gallops through my family, I have lost a brother to it. I am coping with it as best as I can. And starting this blog has been therapeutic, cathartic, and I have received support and positive comments from my fellow bloggers and the bipolar d/o community. With this blog, I wanted to tell my story, I wanted to help other people with this illness, or any other mental illness. By being truthful, plain, and simple, I wanted to say that even though this illness is hellish in its worst forms, you can survive it and live a life that has a lot of good in it. I also wanted to do scientific, informative pieces, considering my science background. And that is what I have been doing since August 3rd 2014, when this blog was started. So, happy reading. Please comment on the posts if you wish.

  1. Appreciate your knowledge as a molecular biologist. Similar to your MSEd background, I have an MA in psychology and many moons ago (over 20 years) treated severely emotionally disturbed (SED) adolescents as an Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), then called a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor (MFCC). Sorry for the alphabet soup of a comment. This is, after all, your About page, not mine.

  4. Hurray! I found another molecular biologist with bipolar disorder!! Granted I only have a BS and I have Bipolar Disorder 2, it makes me feel good to find another scientific mind who is brave enough to tell their story. I’m looking forward to reading your posts and learning from you. 🙂

  6. God bless you for being open, not ashamed to show who you are! I am the mother of a bipolar 1 daughter who just turned 18 (diagnosed at 14) Got her thru high school. I am 58 and can barely function because of all the rejection!! I love her to death but her choices scare me… older criminal boyfriend she wants to live be with…

    • That’s scary, I am so sorry. It’s so difficult when your children are not doing well, I think, as mothers, it affects us more and yet we are powerless to do anything about it once they’re grown. I hope your daughter starts making better choices. Hugs for both of you.

  7. Nice blog! I have bipolar I too. It’s tough but it has become a part of me, it distinguishes me, and gives me character. I hope you have been able to deal with yours too. 🙂

    • Thank you, my friend, for reading my blog and for making understanding and caring comments. I think you need to start a blog. Really! Depression is very difficult to deal with, so sorry your mom had it.
