Recent large-scale studies have found that vegetarians and vegans are more likely to be depressed than omnivores. But the reason for this link is unclear.

Very strange, not really known why, but there is a link.
Thanks SO much for this article, Samina!!!! It’s of major interest to me.
I’ve been a vegan for almost a year and I’ve never felt stronger or more stable, mood-wise.
While the beginning of the article shares a lot of studies showing a strong correlation between rates of depression & vegetarianism, the last 3 studies that show the opposite findings. Those studies interest me the most.
I need to re-read this article a bunch of times – there’s so much info. there & I barely skimmed it.
I’m not sure if you heard of the recent Cornell University controversy that made headlines in all the major papers. A famous nutrition professor’s research came under scrutiny – here’s an article that explains what happened:
That incident shows you cannot trust research all of the time, even at a top university with a professor who had been widely admired by his peers.
To be honest, I’m very skeptical about any study, no matter how legit and large and impressive it sounds, that states that vegetarianism is connected with higher rates of depression.
In the documentary that changed my life, “What The Health,” you’ll see the massive corruption which exists in the meat & dairy industries. They make Big Pharma’s transgressions seem like small potatoes! These greedy, unethical companies just might have something to do with studies that paint vegetarianism in a poor light. (And no, I’m not Fox Mulder from the X Files!) I highly recommend watching this film. I’d be very curious to see what you think of it…it is not easy watching – I had to take breaks, but it was absolutely worthwhile.
Sending you lots of love and hugs – please let me know if you hear about anything else like this. Once again, I’m super grateful to you for sharing this post.
XOXO,
Dy

Dearest Dyane, I thought it was very strange that such a link exists as well. The only thing I thought of as possible was that maybe there are some nutrients in meat that are required by the brain for mood modulation…
I know how awful factory farms are, ugh!!! I read a book called Skinny Bitch many years ago and still have nightmares.
It is entirely possible that these studies were funded by the meat industry just as all the studies that say alcohol is good for you are funded by alcohol giants. Alcohol is poison and really bad for you.
You keep being healthy and beautiful!!! Happy holidays! 🎄🎁💫
Love you lots and lots.
